Arthur BrisbaneWhile you're exploring the Historic Village at Allaire, New Jersey's premiere historic site, be sure to visit the Arthur Brisbane Continuing Research Center. The Center features a permanent exhibit dedicated to interpretation the Life and Times of Arthur Brisbane, renowned journalist and publisher and former owner of the Howell Works property.

Along with this, the Center will also host a permanent exhibit in the Membership Room defining what Allaire Village, Inc. is about, a brief corporate history of AVI and also how visitors can become involved through volunteering, memberships and contributions. Check back for updates on when this exhibit will open.

 

 

 

James AllaireAllaire Yesterday and Today

A semi permanent exhibit is open for the 2008 Season which will define what life was like at The Howell Works Company in the 1800's. The exhibit addresses not only the commercial aspects of the Howell Works Company and its residents but social and domestic issues as well. This seasons rotating exhibit also focuses on Arts and Humanities. The exhibit covers such topics as the owners of the Howell Works property from James P. Allaire to Arthur Brisbane, who was Arthur Brisbane and why did he purchase Allaire and the life and times of Arthur Brisbane at Allaire - his legacy and gift. The exhibit also addresses James P. Allaire as an Industrialist, Ironmonger and, Developer, his self sufficient village and community life and the progression of the Howell Works form an industrial village to The Historic Village at Allaire Museum. Finally, this exhibit and showcases a mini exhibit entitled Arts and Humanities: A Tribute in Photographs of the Village.

The Historic Village at Allaire is proud to be New Jersey's premiere historic site. New Jersey, where history was forged!

The establishment of the Arthur Brisbane Continuing Education Center at the Howell Works Enameling Building has been made possible by a gift from Allaire Brisbane Stallsmith and William P. Stallsmith, Jr. and a matching gift by the Norfolk Southern Foundation.
